Advanced CAD-PLM Integration in a Naval shipbuilding environment

Warship, June 2012 (Bath, UK) Fernando Alonso, Carlos Gonzalez and Rodrigo Perez - SENER

Military shipyards building surface ships and submarines are implementing PLM Systems as a global solution to the management of information through the life cycle of naval vessels, with the objectives of increasing productivity, reducing vessel design and production times, saving costs and improving the quality of the whole process.

This paper presents an advanced architecture for CAD – PLM integration in a naval shipbuilding environment. The paper describes in detail the architecture of the solution, the, the requirements met by the solution and the benefits and advantages of this approach which is based in FORAN System as the CAD tool, and it will be implemented in a key military european shipyard.

Advantages of using a Virtual Reality tool in shipbuilding

2012

This paper describes the benefits of using a virtual reality environment in the shipbuilding industry, taking into consideration all the agents involved in the design, production and life-cycle of ships. Some of these advantages are the quick evaluation of modifications and design changes, the production checking and approval, simulation of maintenance, disassembly and operation tasks, training of crews and for commercial and marketing purposes.

The solution presented, based on FORAN System, shows FVIEWER VR, the virtual navigation tool developed by SENER.

Efficient design of outfitting & machinary spaces

ICCAS, September 2011. R. de Góngora, SENER

This paper is devoted to analyse current FORAN system outfitting & machinery spaces design tools, reviewing how main drivers match features, and what is the solution provided for each case. At the same time, it describes the aspects in which FORAN can be further improved and the way to achieve it.

Integrated development environment in shipbuilding computer systems

ICCAS, September 2011. A. Cebollero and A. Benayas, SENER

Computer applications for shipbuilding were born to make ship design and production more efficient. The early programs soon became complex systems, expanding their functionality to all aspects of the ship life cycle. Eager to meet the ever-increasing requirements of their customers, software houses must provide not only advanced systems but also parallel development toolkits for users to develop in-house extensions. Taking as a reference the Foran System, this paper reviews the key features of a class of those toolkits, the integrated development environments: intuitive programming language, insulation from mainstream system changes, reduced maintenance expense and rapid response to evolving requirements.

Advanced CAD-PLM integration in a naval shipbuilding environment

ICCAS, September 2011. C. González and F. Alonso, SENER.

Military shipyards building surface ships and submarines are implementing PLM Systems.  A key factor in the success of the implementation is the integration between the shipbuilding CAD System and the PLM, as CAD provides advanced functionalities for vessels design and fabrication and CAD related data must be shared by all the shipyard departments from the early design stages until the commissioning of the vessel. This paper presents an advanced architecture for CAD – PLM integration in a naval shipbuilding environment.
